Echoes of the Minnesota
One of the giants
in the pantheon of theatre organ performers, Tom Hazleton, holds a special
appeal for his beguiling arrangements that could segue from classical to jazz
and back to “bump and grind” runway music. This recording was
made in 1988 on the Wurlitzer organ originally from the Minnesota Theatre
in Minneapolis. It was rebuilt and installed by the late David Junchen in
a large private music room. The selections you will hear on this album were
all played with spontaneous creativity by the late Tom Hazleton in informal
sessions. The crowning contribution on the album is a 32 minute medley that
Tom wove together from selections and themes that are associated with the
American South. He entitled it Southern Fantasia. This is a chance to hear
and appreciate the fertile musical imagination of Tom Hazleton at its best. |
